The cat likes it. He came to it immediately and started drinking. He likes moving water which is why I’m using a fountain at all and it improves his water intake.. I’m using it in mode 2, which means it circulates only when he approaches it.This model does not have an app. This is P003. If you want the one you can use with the app, it’s P002. It can be confusing if you’re asking questions about this one in the P003 listing, because some of the answers actually apply to the P002. For example, I wanted to know how to manually trigger emptying the water dish into the waste water tank. When I asked the question in the P003 listing, it talked about using the app which I eventually figured out applied to the P002. Initially, I did not even know there were two versions. My bad. BTW It is possible to press the mode button and trigger emptying the dish into the waste tank. What I want to know now is how to empty the water dish into the waste tank and keep it from filling automatically until I’ve had a chance to clean the sponge and the dish. I’ve only had it since last night, so hopefully I will figure that out.I bought this to replace a metal recirculating fountain that collected a lot of cat food from my cat’s face in the single tank. He’s messy and I feed him wet food. Which meant that the tank almost immediately became contaminated with cat food, which sat there and did what food does in water until I changed the water and washed the tank and the pump. The food in the water dish looked clean, but wasn’t. So having both a freshwater and a waste water tank was a very attractive idea.If I’m correct, and I would welcome corrections, this fountain does not totally solve that issue although I believe it’s a lot better. What I did not figure out at first, and what I think I now understand, is that when food lands in the water dish, and the water is circulating, the food does not immediately drop into the waste tank. I hoped that it did, but the description did not actually say that – it was an assumption on my part. My bad. The water dish drains into the waste tank only at the scheduled 12 or 48 hours or if you manually trigger it. So, any cat food that lands in the dish will either settle to the bottom of the dish, get caught in the sponge, or, less likely, travel into the tubes that allow the water to circulate. As I said, corrections are welcome, but that’s what it looks like to me so far. I don’t think it can actually get into the pump. I hope not. To get into the tubes, it would have to pass the little sponge, which hopefully will catch most of it and which can be cleaned easily. What I have noticed so far is that particles of food fall into the bottom of the water dish and stay there.I’m home a lot, so I can monitor the situation. I can manually trigger dumping the water dish into the waste tank. I can wash the sponge. I can use a syringe to draw out bigger cat food particles, which although not ideal may help a little. But it’s definitely not a set it and leave it for a few days situation, at least not with my cat.I’m considering returning this one and getting the app based one —has anyone used the app based fountain and do you like it?Update: so, in order to clean the fountain you have to turn it off. Seems obvious, but be aware that you cannot turn it off if it is attached to house power. First: disconnect from house power.Next, drain the water dish into the waste tank by pressing the mode button. Then, immediately turn the unit off by pressing the on/off button. I’m not sure exactly how long it takes but it’s more than a quick push. If you do not do this, the dish will quickly automatically refill on battery power. After that, do whatever degree of cleaning you want. I am doing a dish and sponge cleaning every day because the dish gets a little slimy, even if I have been removing visible cat food particles. I am using a screwdriver to pop out the sponge cover, and I’m finally remembering which way it goes to put it back in. It snaps in easily if it is oriented correctly. This would also be a good time to clean the tanks, refill the freshwater tank, etc. Other reviewers have mentioned cleaning the pump area, but I have no idea how this is done. I do see instructions in the manual for descaling the interior pump using effervescent tablets and or baking soda but this is recommended at about the three month interval and I don’t know if it’s really needed if you have soft water. When you are finished and everything is back together, press the on button and reconnect to house power if desired. If anybody’s found a better method, by all means, please post. The manual is short and general, and the YouTube video presently accessed through the QR code in the paper manual is a user video, not produced by the company and doesn’t include a lot of detail. And some of us need detail.I have decided to keep this model rather than getting the app based model, now that I have figured a few things out. My cat continues to use...
